The Chinese Chip Design Technology Seminar (ICAC) opened on March 23rd, lasting two days.

 

On March 23, 2023, the 5th Chinese Chip Design Technology Seminar (hereinafter referred to as “ICAC”), jointly sponsored by Southeast University, Fudan University, University of Macau, Tsinghua University, and University of Electronic Technology, was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Shenzhen for a period of two days. Gather the latest research achievements of Chinese scholars and build a top technology exchange platform

 

ICAC is an emerging, nongovernmental, open, and top technology exchange platform initiated by several outstanding young and middle-aged professors in China. It is committed to establishing a top technology exchange platform for colleagues in the academic and industrial fields of integrated circuit design in China, creating an open technology discussion atmosphere, promoting possible cooperation, stimulating new ideas and directions, and brainstorming for common improvement. The ICAC entity organizing organization has set up an integrated circuit technology research center for Huaxin in Futian District, Shenzhen. Currently, the organization has settled in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

 

Unlike the traditional academic conference submission and review model, ICAC pursues the principle of “openness and independence”, and focuses on the latest research achievements of Chinese scholars through invitation and recommendation, providing a high-level feast for designers in the chip field.

 

The fifth ICAC was chaired by Zhao Diwen from Southeast University, Xu Jiawei from Fudan University, and Lu Yan from University of Macau. Li Qiang from University of Electronic Science and Technology, Sun Nan from Tsinghua University, Mai Peiran from University of Macau, Liu Yongpan from Tsinghua University, and Chen Chixiao from Fudan University served as chairmen of the technical committee.

Zhao Diwen, a professor at the School of Information Science and Engineering of Southeast University and president of the conference, mentioned in an interview that integrated circuits are a focus of national and global attention, and also a key research direction that requires a large amount of human and material resources for future scientific and technological development. The reason why we chose to hold the event in Shenzhen is that the government of Shenzhen, an innovative city, has made rapid decisions and provided strong support for the integrated circuit field, creating a good entrepreneurial environment that has attracted integrated circuit peers to choose to start businesses in Shenzhen.

 

The highest level achievements in the field of integrated circuit design are usually published in the ISSCC (International Conference on Solid State Circuits) and JSSC (IEEE Journal of Solid State Circuits), known as the “Chip Olympics”. Since 2013, JSSC papers have been published annually in mainland China, and ISSCC papers have been published annually since 2016. Although the number of ISSCC and JSSC papers in mainland China has shown a rapid growth trend since 2018, keeping pace with industrial development. However, scholars still need a professional and high-quality platform to exchange their ideas, and the Chinese chip design technology seminar emerged as the times require.

Professor Zhao Diwen said that the highlight of this ICAC session is the large number of participants, with nearly 800 participants, which is the largest number of participants over the years; The speaker has a high academic level and invited 68 top Chinese experts and scholars in the field of integrated circuit design to give excellent reports at the seminar, including 2 conference reports and 66 regular reports. The speaker has published research results on ISSCC or JSSC in the past year, promoting more efficient cooperation with a higher research perspective; Set up a student poster section to showcase papers that have been recruited in high-level journals and conferences in the chip field, encourage physical demonstrations, and support better participation and communication among students in the chip field.

It is reported that the Macao University Hetao Integrated Circuit Research Institute in Futian District, Shenzhen will soon be established in Hetao, which will be the first research institute opened by the University of Macau in the mainland with an integrated circuit specialty. Lu Yan, associate professor of the Institute of Microelectronics at the University of Macau and co sponsor of ICAC, mentioned that the University of Macau’s Hetao Integrated Circuit Research Institute will complete the renovation in the middle of this year and officially enter the Hetao Cooperation Zone. In the future, Macao University Hetao Integrated Circuit Research Institute will carry out cooperation with local enterprises in Shenzhen in different dimensions, and encourage graduates from the University of Macau to bring their research results to Shenzhen.
